12% Cobalt Hex-Cem® by Borchers (Milliken) is a cobalt-based drier. It reduces the surface drying time of coatings, varnishes, stains, and inks. It promotes rapid surface drying by catalyzing redox reactions that decompose hydroperoxides through the conversion of Co²⁺ to Co³⁺.
- 12% Cobalt Hex-Cem® is designed for oxidatively cured solvent-based systems.
- It ensures uniform through-drying of the paint film when used alongside secondary driers such as zirconium, barium, or zinc.
- It is recommended for architectural paints, industrial coatings, stains, artists’ colors and oil-based inks.
- The recommended dosage level is 0.03–0.08% metal based on vehicle solids of the coating, and 0.03–0.05% based on binder solids.
