Pentyl Acetate by BASF is a mixture of isomeric pentyl esters of acetic acid. Acts as a clear, medium-volatility solvent for coatings industry. Possesses a mild ester odor and high solvent power for numerous natural and synthetic resins eg. acrylics and cellulose derivatives. Evaporates slowly. Exhibits miscibility with most common organic solvents, but insoluble in water. Used in coatings industry for cellulose nitrate lacquers or acrylic paints, automotive finishes, cellulose nitrate emulsion paints for leather finishes, and special coatings, e. g. for tennis racquets. Pentyl Acetate is also used as an extractant for removing substances from aqueous systems, eg. in the production of penicillin.
