Efka® FA 4665 by BASF is a low-molecular-weight dispersing agent. It is unsaturated carboxylic acid combined with a very compatible organically modified polysiloxane. It prevents flooding and floating of pigments. It helps to prevent interfacial tension between hydrophilic pigments/extenders and binder. It offers reduced dispersion time, stabilization of pigment dispersion, reduced pigment sedimentation. It does not allow formation of Bénard cells, and reduces tendency to orange peel. It exhibits improved gloss and slip. Efka® FA 4665 is suitable for medium to high-polarity binder systems such as alkyd/amino resin combinations, nitro-cellulose systems, polyurethane- and chlorinated polymer systems, acrylic polyisocyanate systems (2-pack acrylics), and chlorinated polymers. Its recommended dosage level for inorganic pigment is 0.5–2.5 % and 0.1–1.0 % for total formulation.
