Ketjenflex® CP by Axcentive is para-toluene sulfonic acid-based catalyst. It provides fast cure, excellent weathering & exterior durability and high gloss. It does not need any activation and can be readily used. In epoxy resins, it accelerates cationic curing mechanisms. It is used in acid cured amino resins for indoor wood coatings such as floors. It forms the hardener component accelerating the cure of the resin. It is added at 2-3% based on solids to provide maximum cure response. Ketjenflex® CP is also used in melamine systems to promote the cross-linking of hydroxyl-functional polymers with amino-formaldehyde cross-linking agents such as hexamethoxymethyl melamine, especially in coil coatings. It provides outstanding cure, viscosity stability upon oven aging, corrosion/salt spray resistance and excellent adhesion/intercoat adhesion in coil primers. It can also be used in aqueous melamine based veneers. This product is used to catalyze fine chemical reactions such as fatty acid esterification, aldol & enol reactions, nitrosations of alkenes and synthesis of azo dyes. It is also used as a stabilizer for isocyanate prepolymers and as a pH regulator in electroplating.
