Tri-n-butyl citrate. Acts as a plasticizer. It is based on natural citric acid raw material, which is mainly derived from the fermentation of corn. Offers formulators a unique combination of environmentally friendly features. It is neither "Volatile Organic Compound" (VOC) nor "Hazardous Air Pollutant" (HAP) and combine efficient plasticization of polymers with low toxicity, high flash points and rapid biodegradability. It is for both cellulosic and vinyl resins. In recent years, Citroflex™ 4 has found utility as a plasticizer in polylactic acid resins as a biodegradable component. As a plasticizer in furniture coatings it provides improved light stability in cellulose acetate formulations. A special quality Citroflex™ 4 sold as TBC, PG, is used in pharmaceutical coatings.
