Toughening Agents for Coatings and Inks

B-Tough™ C2r by Cargill is a VOC-free, reactive epoxy functional toughening agent. It is a low viscous, non-migratory additive which is easy to handle and to formulate with. It offers good chemical resistance and excellent impact resistance, while absorbing mechanical stress without impacting hardness.

• It allows for the formulation of zero to low VOC epoxy coatings with the flexibility of a solid epoxy (1001 type) resin-based system and the hardness of a liquid epoxy (828 type) resin-based system.
• B-Tough™ C2r is suitable for indoor floor-, industrial-, marine and protective coatings.

LS-AGE distributed by DKSH is a diluting agent and toughener. It is recommended for epoxy floor coating and diluting the epoxy coating of food grade. It can be combined with liquid epoxy resin. It has a shelf life of 1 year. LS-AGE is available only in Europe and Asia/Pacific.

BTM-3150 by Nanjing Baitong New Material acts as a toughening agent. It is a masterbatch that improves the bonding force between the film layer and the base paper. It improves melt strength and flow stability, reduce leakage and hole breaking during the coating process.

• It can avoid production interruption, improve production stability and increase the yield rate of products.
• It is specially developed for biodegradable materials PBAT and PLA lamination.
• The recommended dosage level of BTM-3150 is 10-15%.

IPVE by Nippon Carbide Industries acts as toughening agents. It improves processing, toughness, softness, brilliance, dyeability and clarity. It imparts good compatibility, hydrophilicity and plasticity. It is suitable for coatings and varnishes. IPVE is listed with TSCA.

SIOResin® LC-9 by Guangzhou SIO New Material is a high-performance toughening agent specifically engineered to enhance the toughness and durability of phenolic resins. It is a flexible long-chain polymer that provides exceptional impact resistance and structural integrity. It offers excellent compatibility and stability with waterborne phenolic resin. It enhances adhesion to non-polar substrates. It is used in coatings to significantly improve the mechanical properties of phenolic resins, making them more resilient to stress and strain. The recommended dosage level is 7-9%. SIOResin® LC-9 has a shelf life of 12 months.

HBVE by Nippon Carbide Industries is a 4-hydroxybutyl vinyl ether. It imparts good compatibility, hydrophobicity and plasticity. It improves processing, toughness, softness and clarity. HBVE is designed for coatings. It is listed with TSCA.

IBVE by Nippon Carbide Industries is isobutyl vinyl ether. It provides good compatibility, hydrophobicity and plasticity. It improves processing, toughness, softness and clarity. Recommended for coatings and varnishes. IBVE is listed with TSCA.

EHVE by Nippon Carbide Industries is a 2-ethylhexyl vinyl ether. It improves processing, toughness, softness and clarity. It offers good compatibility, hydrophobicity and plasticity. EHVE is recommended for coating applications. It is listed with TSCA.

Carboxyl terminated liquid nitrile rubber/(CTBN) CN-20 by Tanyun Aerospace Materials (Yingkou) Technology is a liquid telechelic polymer, toughning agent. It offers strong polarity, wide range temperature performance, stability, compatibility and cracking resistance.

• It exhibits active carboxyl groups at both ends of the molecular chain, which has the ability to re-react and expand the chain.
• Suitable for use in coating in fields such as aerospace, electronics, automotive high-speed rail, ships and light textile chemicals.
• The shelf life of Carboxyl terminated liquid nitrile rubber/(CTBN) CN-20 is 12 months.
