Styrene Monomers for Coatings and Inks

Deltech Monomers para-Methylstyrene (PMS) by Deltech is a monomer used as a replacement for vinyltoluene and styrene monomers. It shares similar chemical properties and polymerization behavior with both vinyltoluene and styrene. It exhibits lower vapor pressure at any temperature and a higher flashpoint when used as a partial or complete replacement for styrene monomer in unsaturated polyester resin applications.

4-Vinylbenzoic acid by Polysciences is a carboxylic acid monomer. All usage of this product must comply with FDA 40 CFR 720.36.

Methacrylate-terminated polystyrene usually supplied in cyclohexane solution. It is a low-molecular weight macromolecular monomer with a single methacrylate ester end-group. Can be readily co-polymerized with many other monomers. Soluble in a wide range of monomers and organic solvents. Increases shear strength without affecting peel strength and improves toughness while maintaining the thermoplastic nature of the end polymer. Final resin properties are similar to those of polystyrene.

SP-51-001 by Specific Polymers is styrene dimethyl phosphonate. It contains 150 ppm of 4-methoxyphenol as stabilizing agent. It is UV curable, phosphorus-based monomer. Offers chelation and fire proofing properties. It is suitable for metal coating applications.

SP-68-026 by Specific Polymers is vanillin styrene. It is UV curable and hydrophobic. Offers fluorescence and optical properties. It is suitable for other sustainable, glass and metal coating applications.

SP-59-005 by Specific Polymers is styrene imidazole. It contains 100 ppm of 4-methoxyphenol as stabilizing agent. It is UV curable, hydrophobic nitrogen-based monomer. Offers antimicrobial and anticorrosion properties. It is suitable for glass and metal coating applications.

Vinyltoluene (VT) by Jiangsu Zhengdan Chemical Industry is a flammable, mixture of m-methylstyrene and p-methylstyrene. Compared with styrene monomer (SM), it has lower toxicity, volatility and odor, higher stability and flash point. Suitable as a replacement of SM for the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resin, modified alkyd resin, vinyl resin etc. which are widely used in impregnating insulation dip paint and coatings. It is reactive with oxidants, peroxides and strong acids. Vinyltoluene (VT) has high flash point and is stored in a warehouse below 16°C.
