Solvents for Coatings and Inks

KUMANOX 3111F (MSP-3F) distributed by DKSH is a non-reactive diluent recommended for solvent-free and high solid coatings. It is a styrenated phenol. It imparts flexibility, water-, moisture-, blush-, UV-, abrasion resistance, hardness, self-leveling and adhesion.

• It provides drying time, long-lasting color stability against UV and heat by radical blocking technology.
• It is a high purity grade of KUMANOX 3111 (MSP-3).
• It is suitable for use in construction epoxy paints, protective-, maintenance-, marine- and decoupage coatings.
• Recommended dosage level is 10-20% based on the epoxy resin.
• KUMANOX 3111F (MSP-3F) has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Canada.

Dapro® FX 511 by Elementis is a low odor coalescing agent. It is a strong solvent and plasticizer for polymeric particles which are based on polyacrylics, polystyrene-acrylics, polyvinyl acetates and other commonly used homo-, co- and terpolymeric dispersions.

• It is added to latex, plaster and dispersion paints in order to reduce the minimum film formation temperature and to facilitate the coalescence of the polymeric dispersion particles during drying.
• Dapro® FX 511 improves the scrub resistance of normal and high-loaded dispersion paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-2%.
• It has a shelf life of 3 years.

Luna-nol C-12 distributed by DKSH is a water-based coalescent and retarder solvent. It can enhance the performance properties of the paint and shows good film forming properties.

• It is designed for use in coatings such as architectural, automotive OEM (electrodeposition primers) and can and floor polishes.
• It is suitable for general industrial-, industrial maintenance-, marine- and industrial wood- & transportation coating applications.
• It is recommended for emulsion polymer systems like latex paints, coil coatings and baking enamels.
• It can be used in graphic arts & printing inks (lithographic and letterpress oil-based inks).
• It is available in USA, Europe and Asia/Pacific regions.

DPHA by allnex is a VOC- and solvent-free, multifunctional reactive diluent that polymerizes when exposed to sources of free radicals. It is particularly useful in ultraviolet light (UV) and electron beam (EB) curable coatings and inks where improved cure response, hardness and scratch/abrasion resistance are desired.

• It offers high cross-link density and good chemical resistance.
• It is characterized by very low vapor pressure, high acrylate- and hydroxyl- functionality.
• DPHA is recommended for scratch resistant coatings for plastics, lithographic and screen inks.

BECKOPOX™ EP 075 by allnex is a flexibilizing bifunctional reactive diluent of neutral odor for unmodified epoxy resins. This grade is propylene glycol diglycidyl ether. BECKOPOX™ EP 075 is used in combination with e.g. BECKOPOX™ EP 140 for solvent-free two-component systems like coatings. The formulation is suitable for curing at elevated temperatures. The recommended shelf life is 1 year at storage temperature up to 25°C.

BENZYL ALCOHOL (DKSH) distributed by DKSH is a curing- & crosslinking agent, hardener, organic solvent, and cleaning agent. It is recommended for epoxy coatings & paints, traffic paints (road marking inks).

LS-AGE distributed by DKSH is a diluting agent and toughener. It is recommended for epoxy floor coating and diluting the epoxy coating of food grade. It can be combined with liquid epoxy resin. It has a shelf life of 1 year. LS-AGE is available only in Europe and Asia/Pacific.

Butyl Diglycol by BASF is diethylene glycol monobutyl ether [2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethanol]. Acts as a solvent and flow promoter. Exhibits low-volatility, high boiling point and mild odor. Provides compatibility with urea, melamine, phenol and epoxy resins. Butyl Diglycol reduces the tendency to blistering and improves leveling. Is miscible with many common solvents including aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, ethers, glycols, glycol ethers and water. Used for baking finishes, coil coating lacquers and moisture-set printing inks.

Butyl Glycol by BASF is a high boiling, low volatility eth­y­lene gly­col mono-n-butyl ether/ 2-Butox­yetha­nol/ 1-Hydroxy-2-n-butoxyethane having mild odor. It acts as a solvent and coalescent for paints and printing inks. It can form peroxides in the presence of atmospheric oxygen.

• It also improves brush ability of alkyd resin paints and reduces their viscosity.
• It significantly lowers the minimum film forming tempera­ture (MFFT).
• Improves the evaporation beha­vior of the vola­tile constituents.

• Butyl Glycol is used for aqueous coatings and printing inks.

Butyl Glycol Acetate by BASF is ethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate/ acetic acid-2-butoxyethyl ester/ 2-butoxyethyl acetate. Acts as a low volatility solvent for paints and printing inks. Possesses a faint ester odor, and good solvent power for numerous organic substances. Improves the gloss and flow of coatings. Also improves the flow and brushability of cellulose nitrate and cellulose ether lacquers and of paints formulated from chlorinated binders. Exhibits miscibility with most common organic solvents eg. alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, ethers, glycols, and glycol ethers but sparingly soluble with water. Butyl Glycol Acetate is used in flexographic, gravure and screen printing inks, for dyes used to print and color leather and textiles, for dyes in furniture polishes and wood stains.
