Pigment Dispersion for Coatings and Inks

QUAKER COLOR™ BRF-FP-1854 Fluorescent Pink by Quaker Color is a fluorescent resin-free, waterborne, low-VOC and APE-free dispersion based on Fluorescent Pink. It is designed to be used in waterborne or water reducible industrial and architectural coatings, inks, and stains. BRF-F dispersions are resin-free, they are compatible with most water-based applications.

• Technology: QUAKER COLOR™ BRF-FP-1854 is surfactant based and glycol-free. It will have minimal influence on coating properties like gloss, hardness, moisture resistance, and rheology.
• Applications: It is formulated to be used in places where fluorescence is needed for extra visibility. It can be used in architectural as well as industrial coatings.
• Compatibility: It is compatible in most waterborne and water-reducible coating types like acrylic, styrene acrylic, alkyd emulsion, PUD urethane, vinyl acrylic, epoxy, and 2k urethane.
• Typical addition levels are between 0.1 and 12% by weight.

Tallicin® K-9 by Pflaumer Brothers is a polymeric dispersant with multiple anchor groups that can be used to disperse inorganic and organic pigments. It improves pigment wetting, color development and storage stability. It is used in solvent-based coatings, industrial maintenance coatings, offset inks and powder coatings.

• It is effective in reducing viscosity for dispersions of both oxidized and non-oxidized carbon black.
• It allows the formulator to increase the pigment loading in the mill base, thus improving both efficiency and cost of production.
• Recommended dosage level is 2 and 20% based upon pigment weight if the surface area of the pigment is unknown.

Chroma-chem® 844-1863 distributed by DKSH is a high performance, non-aqueous yellow iron-oxide pigment. It is dispersed in a proprietary acrylic resin vehicle that provides excellent wetting and dispersing properties superior to other acrylic resins available.

• It contains a carefully selected and unique blend of vehicle, solvent, pigment and additives to yield acceptance in a wide range of non-aqueous coatings applications.
• Designed to minimize the dispersing resin and additive levels.

QUAKER COLOR™ SRF-BKEF-1082 Bio-Renewable Black by Quaker Color is a universal, solvent-based, resin free pigment dispersion. It has a wide compatibility and can be used in many solventborne industrial applications.

• Technology: It is resin-free, surfactant based in PM acetate and n-butyl acetate. Most solventborne pigment dispersions are based on an inert resin, SRF Dispersions are not. This results in better coating properties like hardness, chemical resistance, and durability.
• Applications: QUAKER COLOR™ SRF-BKEF-1082 can be used in solventborne industrial coatings. It should be used where traditional acrylic or aldehyde resin-based systems have too big an impact on coating properties.
• Compatibility: It can be used in systems containing short and long oil alkyds, alkyd modified urethanes, acrylics, CAB, 2K epoxy, 2K urethanes, styrenated alkyds, polyesters, nitrocellulose, and vinyl lacquers.
• Typical addition levels are between 0.1 and 12% by weight.

Terasperse® 2200 by Pflaumer Brothers acts as a dispersing agent for both organic and inorganic pigments for a wide variety of water-based systems, including urethanes, alkyds, acrylics, polyesters and epoxies. It offers excellent color and gloss stability on aging of dispersions, high pigment/binder ratios and a lower level of grinding resin that gives extra flexibility in formulating.

• It shows compatibility with a wide variety of resins including 2-component systems, water-reducible and water-based resins.
• Its well-balanced surface-active functionality provides an excellent combination of hydrophilic and hydrophobic attributes and optimizing the dispersion of almost all pigments and extenders, including such difficult-to disperse pigments as phthalo blue, phthalo green and carbon black.
• It reduces surface tension and produces effective, efficient pigment wetting characteristics.
• Recommended dosage level is 1% to 12% by total weight, depending on the pigments used and other surfactants and vehicles utilized.

Chroma-chem® 50-990-150 distributed by DKSH is a low-VOC, glycol-free, white-colored pigment dispersion for water-based coatings. Offers excellent pigment development, high pigment loading and good rheological properties.

• It provides excellent colorant performance in in-plant coating systems.
• It ensures the maintenance of stability and handling properties.
• It can be used in coatings with slightly acidic or alkaline characteristics.
• Chroma-chem® 50-990-150 tint strength is controlled by weight to +/-3%.
• It is compatible with water-based epoxy & urethane, acrylic, latex and hybrid systems.

NUOSPERSE® 2000 by Elementis is a waterborne wetting and dispersion agent. It is a liquid carrier/ humectant for use in VOC- compliant colorants and pigment dispersions. It is free of organic solvents and nonylphenol ethoxylates, making it environmentally friendly.

• It reduces the tendency of the colorant to dry out during storage or application.
• It offers good water resistance and very good storage stability, pigment wetting and stabilizing properties.
• It stabilizes pigment dispersions and improves dispersing properties.
• Recommended usage level is 5-25%.
• NUOSPERSE® 2000 has a shelf life of 2 years.

NUOSPERSE® FN 211 by Elementis acts as a wetting agent and dispersing agent. It is APEO-free, non-ionic, low-VOC and has low odor. It improves the storage stability of the paint, including freeze/thaw. It is composed of a non-ionic surfactant with polyether segments and a hydrophobic backbone.

• It optimizes color development, reduces flocculation and allows highest pigment loading.
• NUOSPERSE® FN 211 is used in waterborne coating formulations and emulsion paints.
• The recommended dosage is 0.2-1.0% on the total weight for emulsion paints and 15% on the total weight for pigment dispersions.
• It has a shelf life of 3 years.

Chroma-chem® 897-5500 distributed by DKSH is a green-colored pigment dispersion. Provides broader color space, excellent durability, chemical resistance and light fastness. It is APE free with low VOC.

• It can be used for both volumetric dispensing and in-plant tinting.
• Exhibits color retention, dispensability, consistency and film property retention in a wide range of aqueous chemistries.
• Recommended for use in a wide variety of water reducible and emulsion coating systems such as acrylics, alkyds, epoxies and polyurethanes.
