Olefins / Unsaturated Monomers for Coatings and Inks

DCOFA by Cofco International is an unsaturated monomer. It is derived from castor oil through a dehydration process, converting ricinoleic acid into conjugated linoleic acid. It is used in product like coatings and inks due to its enhanced chemical properties.

Piperylene by Braskem is a mixture of C5 compounds. It is used as a raw material to produce hydrocarbon resins with applications in paint and ink.

ETHYLENE by SABIC is ethene. Acts as a monomer. It is a non-toxic, non-corrosive, colorless gas with very little odor. ETHYLENE burns readily in the presence of oxygen with a luminous flame. Used in the production of polyethylene, ethylene dichloride, ethanol, styrene, glycols and many other products.

Dehydrated Castor Oil Fatty Acids (DECASFACIDS) by Jayant Agro-Organics acts as a chemical intermediate. It is a high diene fatty acid based on castor oil. It is used in industries like paint, varnishes, primers, high-speed printing inks, automotive paints, coil & tube coatings, marine finishes etc.

Propene. Acts as a monomer. It is a non-toxic, non-corrosive, colorless gas with very little odor. PROPYLENE by SABIC burns readily in the presence of oxygen with a luminous flame. Used in the production of polypropylene, acrylonitrile, propylene glycols, cumene, butyraldehydes, acrolein and other products.

Dicyclopentadiene by Braskem is a monomer obtained through the C5 stream. It offers excellent combination of stiffness & strength, a wide temperature range of application, high-quality surface finish and outstanding electrical insulation. It enables the manufacturing of lighter parts with superior mechanical properties. Dicyclopentadiene is used in ink.

Buta-1,3-diene. Acts as a monomer. It is a highly reactive flammable, colorless gas with a mild aromatic odor. It is soluble in alcohol and ether but insoluble in water. BUTADIENE polymerizes readily, particularly if oxygen is present. The coploymers with high proportions of styrene have found applications in water-base and other paints.

Decene-1 (C10). It is a colorless liquid. Used in the production of polyalphaolefins, polyol ester, plasticizer alcohols, epoxides and other derivatives.

Butadiene. It is a cracker olefinic monomer. It is currently produced by extractive distillation from a crude butylene concentration stream, a by-product of ethylene and propylene production. This is an expensive process and depends upon petrochemicals, a non-sustainable resource. But due to the Bio-SIM™ technology, diverse feed substrates such as oils as well as fats, palm acids, and carbohydrates are used to produce bio-chemical products that directly replace petrochemicals. Used in the production of synthetic rubber.

Octene-1 (C8). It is a colorless liquid. It can be used as a co-monomer in the production of low-density polyethylene as well as in the production of plasticizer alcohols and other derivatives.
