Hydrophobing Agents

Hydrophobing agents are available as clear or slightly milky liquids, dispersions, or powders. They create a water-repellent barrier in coatings, improving resistance to moisture, stains, and surface degradation. Commonly used in architectural, wood, and industrial coatings. 

Regulatory concerns around fluorinated hydrophobic agents, particularly per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), have driven a shift toward silicone-based and reactive silane technologies. Many next-generation hydrophobic agents now comply with environmental regulations like the European Union’s PFAS restrictions and the U.S. EPA’s efforts to limit persistent pollutants in coatings.
