Fluorescent Whitening Agents / Optical Brighteners

Fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs), also known as optical brighteners, typically appear as crystalline powders or dispersible liquids. Their key benefits include increased optical clarity, improved visual appeal, and long-term color stability. This makes them suitable for architectural, industrial, and automotive coatings. 

Alternatives such as titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and blue-toned pigments provide similar brightening effects but lack the fluorescence that enhances perceived whiteness. Sub-types include water-soluble, solvent-soluble, and polymer-compatible FWAs. Compliance with REACH and EPA guidelines supports the use of low-VOC and non-hazardous FWAs.
