Compatibilizers for Coatings and Inks

Borchi® Add 409WS by Borchers (Milliken) is an APEO- & VOC-free compatibilizer. It is developed to improve color acceptance of universal tinting systems and architectural coatings with improved compatibility.

• It reduces or eliminates rub-out of universal water-based concentrates in solvent-based alkyd bases.
• It can be incorporated as a post-add to the base paint.
• The recommended dosage of Borchi® Add 409WS is 1-3% active on basecoat.

Borchi® Add 406WS by Borchers (Milliken) is an APEO- & VOC-free compatibilizer. It is developed to improve color acceptance of universal tinting systems and architectural coatings.

• It reduces or eliminates the rub-out of universal water-based concentrates in solvent-based alkyd bases.
• It is 90% solid in water.
• It improves compatibility and can be incorporated as a post-add to the base paint.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® Add 406WS is 1-3% active on basecoat.

Emulsogen® TS 200 by Clariant is an emulsifier, nonionic wetting-, dispersing agent and compatibilizer. It is a low-VOC, solvent-, hazard-label-, APEO/NPEO-, preservative-free. It maintains low viscosity of polymer emulsion at different shear rates, enhance electrolyte stability and improved shelf life.

• It prevents rub-out effects, increases tinting strength and provides excellent freeze-thaw stability.
• It also improves wetting of the coated surface, offers excellent adhesion on metal surfaces & reduced water-absorption.
• It reduces haze and has high pigment load and no side effects on gloss, surface drying, blocking or yellowing.
• It has the general dosage of 1.0-1.5% in emulsion paints and in acrylic lacquers, and 0.25% in alkyd lacquers.
• It is compatible with acrylic binder, alkyd, PU and epoxy binder system.
• It is suitable for use in waterborne high PVC paints, as well as in waterborne and solvent-borne low PVC lacquers.
• It is ideal for water-based pigment preparations, organic pigments and carbon blacks.
• It is recommended for POS-colorants as well as for concentrates for in-plant tinting.

Genapol® ED 3060 by Clariant is an APEO-, and preservative-free, nonionic wetting agent for use as compatibilizer in waterborne high PVC paints and waterborne and solvent-borne low PVC lacquers. It also acts as a dispersing agent. It is hazard label-free and easy to handle grade with very low VOC.

• It is recommended for decorative and industrial paints.
• It is suitable for ecolabel certified paints.
• It offers increased tinting strength, improved wetting of the coated surface, good adhesion on metal and polyethylene and reduced water absorption.
• Genapol® ED 3060 prevents the rub-out effects, reduces haze and the foam build up and has no side effects on surface drying, overpaintability or yellowing.
• The general dosage is 0.5-1.5% in emulsion paints, 1.0-1.5% in acrylic lacquers and 0.5-1.5% in alkyd lacquers.
• It has a shelf life of 730 days.

TEGO® Dispers 662 C distributed by DKSH is a compatibilizer for solvent borne base paints. It works well with universal pigment concentrates, pliolite-based paints-, architectural-, decorative-, can-, coil-, industrial coatings and printing inks. Recommended usage level is 0.3 to 3.0%. It has a shelf life of 24 months. TEGO® Dispers 662 C is available in APAC region (Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Philippines).

Emulsogen® LCN 287 by Clariant is a nonionic emulsifier, wetting agent and compatibilizer. It improves the shear, temperature and electrolyte stability of polymer dispersions. It is readily biodegradable, hazard-label-, APEO-, preservative-free and low-VOC product.

• It enhances shelf life with high freeze–thaw stability, prevents rub-out effects, increases tinting strength and improves surface wetting.
• It provides excellent adhesion on metal surfaces, and ensures prolonged workability.
• It is suitable for carbon black, inorganic & organic pigments.
• It is used for the emulsion polymerization of monomers like acrylates, styrene-acrylates, styrene-butadiene, and vinyl acetate.
• Recommended usage is 1-3% active based on monomers.
• It is suitable for waterborne acrylic lacquers (low PVC), tinted waterborne coatings and low odor paints.
• It has a shelf life of 730 days.
• It is FDA approved.

Emulsogen® LCN 118 by Clariant acts as non-ionic emulsifier, wetting agent and compatibilizer. It is an APEO-, preservative-free, readily biodegradable and low-VOC product that improves the shear, temperature and electrolyte stability of polymer dispersions.

• It improves wetting of the coated surface, provides good adhesion on polyethylene.
• It also improves tinting strength, reduces rub-out and water absorption in waterborne acrylic lacquers.
• It reduces haze, shows no impact on storage stability, causes no yellowing effects, and does not influence overpaintability performance.
• It is suitable for waterborne acrylic binder and solvent-borne alkyd binder system.
• It is recommended for decorative paints.
• Recommended dosage level for pure acrylic, styrene-acrylic, vinyl acetate and styrene butadiene is 2%.
• Emulsogen® LCN 118 has the shelf life 2 years.
• It is FDA approved.

Genapol® O 080 by Clariant is a nonionic wetting-, dispersing agent and compatibilizer. It has low VOC and free of APEO, solvent and preservatives. It improves the compatibility of pigments with resins and solvents, while also increasing tinting strength and preventing rub-out effects.

• It provides excellent substrate wetting on polyethylene and remains freeze-thaw stable.
• It reduces water absorption without causing any loss of gloss.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.5-1.0% in emulsion paints and 1.0-1.5% in acrylic lacquers.
• It is suitable for waterborne acrylic lacquers, emulsion paints and tinted deco paints.
• It is ecolabel compliant.
• Genapol® O 080 has a shelf life of 2 years.

PAT-ADD DA 301 by Patcham (FZC) is an anionic wetting agent and compatibiliser. It shows extreme strong wetting efficiency and cures rub-up problems. It is multifunctional and compatible with a wide range of waterborne as well as of solventborne paint systems. It is strongly adsorbed onto inorganic pigments and extenders, thus creating a dense charged layer, which contributes to electrostatic stabilization of the dispersed pigment and extender particles. The tendency of pigment flocculation, during paint production, storage or application is reduced, whereas properties like viscosity stability on storage, color development, opacity are being optimized, using PAT-ADD DA 301. Improves the adhesion of paints and inks if applied onto polar substrates. The optimal amount of to be used is system related, but generally is between 0.1 and 0.5% calculated on the total weight of paint formulation, in case of post addition typically higher levels are needed, such as approx 1% product on total weight of paint. For use as wetting agent in colorants/ tinters (typically in conjunction with PAT-ADD DA 601) higher dosages are required, generally 2 to 5% on total weight of the colorant or tinter. It is a REACH compliant.

Emulsogen® TS 100 by Clariant acts as a nonionic wetting agent and compatibilizer. It helps to reduce the grinding time by faster deagglomeration of TiO₂ and fillers. It is low VOC, APEO-, solvent-, preservative- and label-free grade.

• It prevents rub-out effects, increases tinting strength, provides excellent freeze-thaw stability, and shows no side effects on wet-scrub or gloss.
• It improves wetting of the coated surface, offers excellent adhesion on metal, reduces water absorption, and causes no foaming during paint application.
• It is suitable for acrylic binder, PU and epoxy in waterborne systems and alkyd binder in solventborne system.
• It reduces haze, shows no side effects on yellowing or blocking, and has no impact on surface drying or overpaintability performance.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.24%.
• It is suitable for tinted water- and solventborne deco paints, low PVC lacquers and waterborne coatings.
• Emulsogen® TS 100 has a shelf life of 730 days.
