Antioxidants for Coatings and Inks

DPNG by Kuraray is a nitrogen- & sulfur-free antioxidant and catalyst/accelerator. It possesses low toxicity and high stability. It is synthesized chemically from petrochemicals. This liquid oxygen scavenger solves poor curing problem. It solves not only oxygen inhibition of radical polymerization especially UV curing, it also solves resin deterioration like resin yellowing by oxidation. It also works without catalysts. It avoids metal oxidation and absorbs oxygen. DPNG is used for air-drying unsaturated polyester paints, UV ink and coatings.

Borchi® Nox 614 by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenolic antioxidant. It also acts as an anti-skinning agent and flow promoter. It is a 40% solution of a phenolic modified resin in xylene and methoxy propanol. It is suitable for air-drying and stove-drying systems, colorless as well as pigmented coatings based on air-drying oils and alkyd resins.

• It promotes through-drying, enhances the gloss and has anti-wrinkle properties.
• Borchi® Nox 614 is fully compatible with solvent-, oil-based and high-solids paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 2-4% by weight.

ADDITOL® XL 109/50LG by allnex is a specific antioxidizing agent for oxidizing paint systems and inhibits or retards the crosslinking reactions initiated by air oxygen in the surface of paint films. It acts as anti-skinning agent and impairs too quick drying of the surface. ADDITOL® XL 109/50LG offers enhanced gloss, through-drying, leveling and film hardness. It is suitable for paints on oil and alkyd resins. Recommended dosage level (on solid resin oil or alkyd) may range between 0.1-2% depending on the type of defect. It has a shelf life of 730 days at storage temperature upto 25°C.

Luna-fos 126J distributed by DKSH is a high performance organo-phosphite processing stabilizer. It has been designed to protect coatings from thermo-oxidative degradation by decomposing hydroperoxides to form non-radical, non-reactive products.

• It offers excellent thermal and color stability to coatings upon exposure to high temperatures during processing and curing.
• It is particularly suited to stabilize polyester based systems that are used in powder coatings that undergo electric or direct-gas-fired oven curing, other high industrial bake conditions.
• A special feature of Luna-fos 126J is its efficiency in the presence of NOx gases that are generated during direct gas fired ovens, thus, eliminated yellowing that normally occurs under these baking conditions.
• It is available in USA and Europe.

Antioxidant TP 1605 is a water soluble, thermally stable, VOC- and formaldehyde-free, customized system. Designed for application to aqueous emulsion polymers during or after a drying or curing process. It is used to prevent yellowing of polymers which is caused by oxidation processes. It has a shelf life of at least 12 months when stored dry at 25°C. Recommended dosage level of TP 1605 is 0.05-0.5%.

Antioxidant TP 1634 by Brüggemann is a water soluble customized system applied to aqueous emulsion polymers during or after a drying or curing process. It is VOC- and formaldehyde-free, thermally stable and prevents yellowing caused by oxidation processes. It has a shelf life of at least 12 months when stored dry at 25°C. Recommended dosage level of Reducing Agent TP 1634 is 0.05-0.5%.

Irgafos® 168 by BASF is an antioxidant and a high performance organo-phosphite processing stabilizer. It features low volatility, resistant to hydrolysis, protect polymers prone to oxidation during processing and prevents discoloration. Irgafos® 168 is recommended for powder and solvent-based coating.

Irganox® 1076 by BASF is a highly efficient, non-discoloring, sterically hindered phenolic, primary antioxidant stabilizer that protects organic substrates against thermo-oxidative degradation.

• It has good compatibility with most substrates.
• It offers high resistance to extraction, low volatility, odorless, stable to light and excellent color retention.
• Irganox® 1076 can be used in combination with other additives such as co-stabilizers (thioethers, phosphites, phosphonites), light stabilizers, and other functional stabilizers.
• It is recommended for aerospace, automotive refinish, construction, furniture flooring and floorcare applications.

Hostanox® P-EPQ® distributed by DKSH is a highly efficient phosphorus based secondary antioxidant and processing stabilizer. It offers thermal yellowing reduction during processing and long-term heat stability. It inhibits discoloration due to stoving/NOx and reduces gas fading. Hostanox® P-EPQ® is recommended especially for the applications where polymers and/or binders are cured at elevated temperature and need thermo-stabilization, e.g. powder coatings, coil coatings and specific solvent-borne coatings (automotive). It is available in APAC region (South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam).

Guaiac Blue. LipoVes® Guaiac Blue by SpecialChem acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It is an encapsulated version of Guaiazulene derived from chamomile. Its water solubility enhanced stability against external factors.
