Adhesion Promoters / Bonding Agents for Coatings and Inks

EPOCROS™ WS-700 by Nippon Shokubai is a VOC-free adhesion promoter and a waterborne crosslinker based on acrylic, high oxazoline functionalized reactive copolymer. The new crosslinking technology enhances the reactivity between oxazoline groups and carboxy groups through a heating and mixing process involving EPOCROS™ WS and a carboxy group-containing emulsion with a specific neutralization rate.

• It offers lower curing temperature, excellent storage stability, no peeling and long pot life for one packaging.
• It provides film properties, low toxicity, fast drying and improved water- & heat resistance.
• EPOCROS™ WS-700 allows crosslinking reaction at low temperature (80-120°C) and without any by-product.
• It exhibits high reactivity and performance expression with even small addition.
• It offers excellent adhesion to polyethylene terephthalate (PET), oriented polypropylene (OPP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
• Recommended for coatings (metals, films, paper, plastics, leather), primer (film, plastics, building materials, automobiles, PVB inks), paints, inks and pigment printing.

HALOX® 680 by ICL is a VOC-free, non-flammable, smart release anticorrosive pigment which releases a heterocyclic organic corrosion inhibitor from an organic matrix that adsorbs on the metal surface and forms a protective film. It offers decreased cathodic delamination (undercutting) and improves cut edge protection.

• It is jet milled grade that provides increased intercoat coating adhesion and prevents osmotic blistering. It reduces cost by lowering zinc phosphate loading.
• It acts synergistically with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc phosphate, Z-PLEX 111, SZP-391, HALOX® 430 and Zn-free phosphates.
• It can be formulated into solvent-based, high solid-, and powder coatings.
• It is suitable for solvent-based primers & DTM alkyds, acrylics, water-based epoxies and urethanes, high solids and 100% solids, semi-gloss paints and coil coatings.
• The dosage level of HALOX® 680 as a stand-alone corrosion inhibitor or as an adhesion promoter is 1-2% based on total formula weight (TFW).
• When used in synergy with standard zinc phosphate the loading level of the product is typically 0.5-4% on total formula weight (TFW).

ETERKYD 4901-B-72 distributed by DKSH is an adhesion promoter for industrial coatings. It is used mainly in baking paints and primers.

• It is formulated to meet air pollution regulations.
• It imparts excellent balance of hardness and flexibility.
• It produces high-gloss films with excellent color and color retention.
• ETERKYD 4901-B-72 is recommended for coil coatings, general industrial gloss bake enamels for spray, dip, or flow.

VYLON® 226 distributed by DKSH acts as an adhesion promoter for specialty multi-layer PET films, and coatings where bonding to PET (polyethylene terephthalate), metal or glass is required. It is a branched type, highly polymerized copolyester resin with high glass transition temperature value.

• It can be dissolved by general purpose organic solvents.
• It complies with FDA 175.105.
• VYLON® 226 is available in Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, China, Malaysia, USA, Sweden, Poland, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France and United Kingdom.

EBECRYL® 375 by allnex is tetramercapto derivative designed as adhesion promotor on metal. It is used in a concentration of 2-10 % in acrylated systems to improve adhesion and flexibility. It may be applied by lithographic, screen, gravure, direct or reverse roll, and curtain coating methods. EBECRYL® 375 is recommended for use in UV/EB cured solder resists and metal- & thick coatings. The shelf life of this product is 2 years.

HARDLEN® CY-9122P distributed by DKSH is an adhesion promoter for polyolefin. It is suitable for polypropylene, TPO, EPDM, PP/EPDM and metal substrates without some physical and chemical pre-treatments such as framing treatment.

• It offers good interlayer adhesion between primer and topcoat paint such as 2K system using polyurethane.
• HARDLEN® CY-9122P shows excellent resistance against water, humidity and gasoline after top-coating.
• This product is available in Europe & Asia/Pacific regions.

HARDLEN® EW-5250 distributed by DKSH acts as an adhesion promotor for difficult plastic such as polyolefin. It has better wetting performance. It contains emulsifier and has good storage stability.

• It can make film on the substrate for lower temperature baking system.
• It is used in automotive, can, coil and industrial paints and printing inks.

POLYVEST® 110 distributed by DKSH is a highly reactive binder. It is an apolar, hydrophobic hydrocarbon resin. It is a non-functionalized, stereospecific, low viscous and unsaponifiable liquid polybutadiene grade. It has a high content of 1,4-cis double bonds including 1,4-cis double bonds (approx. 75%), 1,4-trans double bonds (approx. 24%), and 1,2-vinyl double bonds (approx. 1%).

• It exhibits high electrical insulation properties as well as high chemical-, water- & cold resistance.
• It shows good solubility in aliphatics, aromatics and ethers.
• It offers good compatibility with alkyd resins, hydrocarbon resins, rosin resins and zinc resonates.
• It is suitable for offset printing inks, anodic dip coatings and oxidative drying lacquers.
• It is also used in chlorinated rubber synthesis and polyurethane foams.
• It has a shelf life of one year.
• POLYVEST® 110 is available in Canada.

HARDLEN® CY-2321 P distributed by DKSH acts as an adhesion promoter. It offers improved compatibility with other resins and stability under low temperature (-5°C).

• It offers good adhesiveness to PP/EPDM (polypropylene/ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) and TPO without treatment.
• It provides good performance to water and gasoline resistance after top coating.

ETERKYD 4909 distributed by DKSH is a silicone-free, adhesion promoter for bake finishes. It is used mainly in baking paints and primers.

• It offers initial, long-term and intercoat adhesion of paints based on a multiplicity of binders to metallic and mineral substrates and to certain plastics.
• It retains excellent flexibility and exhibits good color and overbake color retention.
• It provides good toughness and adhesion and films with good anti-stone attack.
• ETERKYD 4909 is recommended for stoving finishes for aluminum, iron or alloy's bare metal castings and plastics.
• It is highly compatible with most binders and can be used universally and even in water-borne one-coat systems.
• The dosage level of the grade is 1.5-3.0% based on total formulation.
