Pflaumer Brothers introduces crosslinking agent for 2K WB polyurethane coatings

Last update on Dec 5, 2025

Pflaumer Brothers announces the introduction of a next-generation aliphatic crosslinking agent developed for high-performance two-component (2K) waterborne polyurethane systems. The new product, TERACURE® HP‑47, is engineered to meet the performance demands of industries such as automotive, aerospace, construction, flooring, wood finishing, OEM production, and industrial coatings.

Water-dispersible aliphatic polyisocyanate hardener

Based on Pflaumer test results, this advanced crosslinker delivers the long-term durability traditionally associated with solvent-borne isocyanates while offering the formulation flexibility and environmental advantages of waterborne systems.

TERACURE® HP‑47 is designed to provide the performance edge for a wide variety of applications, including high-gloss wood coatings, chemical-resistant floor finishes on concrete, and tough exterior coatings for metal, composite, or plastic substrates.

TERACURE® HP‑47 is a water-dispersible aliphatic polyisocyanate hardener that combines broad solvent compatibility with exceptional mechanical, chemical, and UV resistance. The product enables the creation of durable, flexible, high-gloss coatings that can withstand abrasion, weather, and harsh chemical environments. TERACURE® HP‑47 delivers exceptional performance in applications for heavy-duty floor coatings, clear topcoats, and high-traffic surfaces,” said Brian Morris, sales development & marketing director at Pflaumer.

TERACURE® HP‑47 is compatible with a wide range of hydroxyl-functional polyols and offers excellent formulation control by allowing the user to fine-tune the NCO to OH ratio. According to Pflaumer, formulations based on TERACURE® HP‑47 with higher NCO:OH ratios, typically above 1.0, increase crosslink density and deliver higher hardness, improved chemical and solvent resistance, and enhanced toughness. Lower NCO:OH, ratios at or near 1.0 allow for greater flexibility and impact resistance, ideal for coatings onto plastics, elastomers, and flexible substrates.

Suitable for PU-grade solvents with less than 0.05% water

TERACURE® HP‑47, according to Pflaumer, must be used with polyurethane-grade solvents that contain less than 0.05% water. Proper isocyanate handling techniques should be followed to ensure optimal performance in moisture-sensitive systems. As with any high-performance chemical, TERACURE® HP‑47 should be validated in the intended end-use environment prior to application to ensure delivery of intended results.

Pflaumer reports that coatings based on TERACURE® HP‑47 can be formulated with a variety of additives to optimize properties and performance during and after application:

  • Catalysts may be used to accelerate cure times in environments with variable temperature and humidity.
  • Wetting agents and dispersants improve pigment stabilization and overall gloss.
  • Matting agents can be incorporated for satin or low-gloss finishes.
  • UV stabilizers help extend the coating’s durability in outdoor conditions.
  • Co-solvents can be used to fine-tune film clarity and cure profiles.
  • Adhesion promoters support long-term bonding on challenging substrates.
