Lead oxide (Pb<sub>3</sub>O<SUB>4</SUB>). It is a brilliant orange-red, spinal structured pigment which is manufactured by heating lead monoxide in a reverberator furnace in the presence of air at 450 – 500°C until the desired composition is obtained. Insoluble in water and ethanol. Can dissolve in acetic acid and hot hydrochloric acid. Used in rubber adhesives for roadway joints.
