PEG - 6000

Supplied byShazand Petrochemical complex- Last Updated on Dec 30, 2013

Polyethylene glycol. Acts as a plasticizer. It is formed by the additional reaction of ethylene oxide (EO) with mono ethylene glycols (MEG) or diethylene glycol. PEG -6000 decreases solubility in water & solvents by increasing molecular weight. Also soluble in many polar organic solvents such as acetone and alcohols. It can be considered as Newtonian fluid because its kinematic viscosity decreases as temperature increases. It is hygroscopic hence it attracts and retains moisture from the atmosphere. Has low volatility and is thermally stable for limited period of time below 300°C.
