Styrenic Monomers for Adhesives and Sealants

Styrene Monomer - AS by Americas Styrenics is a colorless liquid with sweet odor. Used in cars & trucks, films, packaging, synthetic rubber, medical equipment and grouts. Also used in the production of expandable polystyrene (EPS), styrene butadiene latex (SBL), acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene/terpolymer (ABS), unsaturated polyester resins (UPR), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR).

SABIC® STYRENE MONOMER by SABIC is vinyl benzene. It is flammable and reactive with a distinctive aromatic odor.

• It has a low vapor pressure and high refractive index.
• Undergoes polymerization readily by heat, light or peroxide catalysts. Polymerization results in volumetric shrinkage (17%) and generation of exothermic heat (17.8 Kcal/mole).
• SABIC® STYRENE MONOMER is commonly used in the production of styrene homopolymers and copolymers.

SA (styrene acrylic), manufactured by Beijing Eastern Acrylic Chemical Technology, is a functional hydrophobic acrylic monomer with aliphatic long side-chain. It is a white waxy solid. Used in adhesives.

Methacrylate-terminated polystyrene usually supplied in cyclohexane solution. It is a low-molecular weight macromolecular monomer with a single methacrylate ester end-group. Can be readily co-polymerized with many other monomers. Soluble in a wide range of monomers and organic solvents. Increases shear strength without affecting peel strength and improves toughness while maintaining the thermoplastic nature of the end polymer. Final resin properties are similar to those of polystyrene.

Styrene maleic anhydride copolymer. Offers moderate solution solids, heat resistance and high gloss. Recommended applications include manufacture of adhesives.

Styrene maleic anhydride copolymer. It is a lower solid solution of SMA 2000 that is especially useful in lower viscosity applications. Offers moderate solution solids, heat resistance and high gloss. Recommended applications include manufacture of adhesives.

Styrene (ethenyl benzene/ vinyl benzene/ phenylethene). This organic compound is derived from benzene. It is usually a colorless oily liquid in appearance with a sweet smell. Used as a raw material in synthetic resins.

4-Vinylbenzoic acid by Polysciences is a carboxylic acid monomer. All usage of this product must comply with 40 CFR 720.36.
