Reactive Diluents for Adhesives and Sealants

Cardolite® NX-2026 is a high purity cardanol, bio-based diluent, resin modifier, and accelerator designed for use in adhesives and sealants. It is based on natural, renewable, non-food raw material feedstock. Exhibits very low viscosity, low volatility, excellent water resistance and corrosion protection originating from its chemical structure, long hydrophobic aliphatic chain and aromatic ring. Cardolite® NX-2026 is suitable to be used as a diluent and an accelerator for epoxy adhesives and an isocyanate blocking agent. In adhesive formulation, Cardolite® NX-2026 can improve workability by reducing viscosity and help to achieve fast cure in solvent free formulations. It is recommended for 2K Epoxy adhesives, pressure sensitive adhesive, hot melt adhesives for fabric lamination, 1K/2K epoxy-PU hybrid adhesive, wood/ paper adhesives and industrial adhesive applications. The recommended use level of the product is <20% of total resin weight.

Cardolite® Ultra LITE 513 by Cardolite is a low viscosity, mono-functional epoxy reactive diluent. The long hydrophobic aliphatic side chain of cardanol gives this product a very low viscosity and provides excellent water resistance, flexibility, and thermal shock resistance. High viscosity solvent or solvent-free formulations can achieve enhanced workability and higher solids without sacrificing other performance properties using this product. Recommended use level for Cardolite® Ultra LITE 513 is 2-20% of total resin weight. It is an excellent alternative to glycidyl ether diluents because of favorable health hazard labeling, hydrophobicity, and mechanical properties. Used in 1K/2K epoxy adhesives including transportations, industrials and electronics sectors.

Cardolite® NC-513 is a low viscosity, mono-functional epoxy reactive diluent by Cardolite. The long hydrophobic aliphatic side chain of cardanol gives this product a very low viscosity and provides excellent water resistance, flexibility, and thermal shock resistance. HELOXY™ Modifier 67 by Westlake Epoxy is a reactive diluent or viscosity reducer for adhesive applications. It is compatible with bisphenol-based epoxy resins, peroxidized olefin, and higher functionality epoxy resins. It facilitates air release and maintains high reactivity yet provides workable viscosity at room temperature when using novolac or other high functionality epoxy resins.

EPICLON® 520 by DIC Corporation is a 100% reactive diluent, alkyl phenol mono glycidyl ether. It achieves very lower viscosity when mixed with liquid epoxy resins. EPICLON® 520 is used in concrete adhesives.

Lapox® ARD-55 (XR-85) by Atul is a low viscosity, high epoxy functionality reactive diluent based on trimethylol propane. Offers good flexibility, improved wetting and processability and reduced viscosity while maintaining most cured properties. Exhibits high resistance to solvents and ammonia. It is compatible with all types of epoxy resins in any proportion. Lapox® ARD-55 (XR-85) is recommended for high temperature sealants and structural adhesives application. It has a shelf-life of 2 years.

HELOXY™ Modifier TP by Westlake Epoxy is a viscosity modifier. It acts as a reactive diluent with high reactivity for liquid epoxy resins. It is polyfunctional glycidyl ether of trimethylolpropane. It offers low viscosity and low temperature curing. Its main fields of application are formulated, low-viscous epoxy resins with good leveling, surfaces and wetting properties. HELOXY™ Modifier TP is designed for adhesives.

Lapox® ARD-15 (K-513) by Atul is a low viscosity monofunctional reactive diluent based on cashew nutshell liquid. It is intended for use as a reactive diluent for high viscosity epoxy resins. Offers improved low temperature curing and moisture resistance. Exhibits improved wetting and processability. Shows high resistance to solvents and ammonia. It reduces viscosity while maintaining most cured properties. It is compatible with all types of epoxy resins in any proportion. Lapox® ARD-15 (K-513) is recommended for structural adhesives application. It has a shelf-life of 2 years.

EPODIL® 781 by Evonik is a mono-functional reactive diluent. Provides improved flexibility and maintains barrier properties. It is sometimes used as a performance alternative for Epodil® 748 with a tradeoff in some mechanical properties. Suitable for structural adhesive applications. Recommended dosage level of EPODIL® 781 is 190 phr. It has a shelf life of 36 months.

Homide 127A by HOS-Technik is o, o´-Diallylbisphenol A (DABA). Acts as a reactive diluent in combination with other bismaleimides. It is a bis-allylphenol compound with heat-curable reactive groups supplied in highly viscous form. Its viscosity can be reduced by heating or by diluting with organic solvents. Homide 127A is insulation resistant to high temperatures.
