Isocyanate Monomers

Isocyanate monomers appear as clear to slightly yellow liquids or solids with distinctive reactivity toward hydroxyl and amine groups. Key features include outstanding adhesion to multiple substrates, excellent chemical resistance, and remarkable flexibility in properly formulated systems. Isocyanate-based adhesives are used in transportation assembly, construction applications, and footwear manufacturing. 

Sub-types include aromatic isocyanates like MDI and TDI offering excellent reactivity and strength, aliphatic varieties providing superior UV and color stability, and prepolymers with reduced volatility and improved handling safety. Recent innovations focus on blocked isocyanates that remain stable until thermally activated addressing workplace safety concerns and the development of lower-hazard alternatives and blocked systems for improved handling.
