FutureChem® EHMA: Methacrylate solution for adhesives and sealants

Last update on Apr 14, 2026

An interview with Beth Coles, Business Development Specialist at FutureFuel Chemical Company

FutureFuel produces ingredients that add performance to products used in our everyday life. In 2024, the company began continuous production of a methacrylate monomer, a product supported by both their Custom and Performance Chemicals business segments.

FutureChem® EHMA is a methacrylate monomer used in various polymer applications. It imparts hydrophobicity, flexibility, chemical resistance, adhesion, scratch resistance, and weatherability to different polymer systems. FutureFuel follows strict safety, quality, and environmental standards at their manufacturing site in Batesville, Arkansas.

We recently spoke to Beth Coles, Business Development Specialist at FutureFuel Chemical Company. In this interview, she provides an overview of the company's manufacturing capabilities and explains how FutureChem® EHMA supports a wide range of applications while ensuring its consistent performance and supply.

#1. Could you share a quick overview of FutureFuel Chemical Company?

FutureFuel is a U.S.-based specialty chemicals manufacturer that produces high-value custom and performance chemicals for a wide variety of markets. FutureFuel has comprehensive technical expertise, flexible manufacturing assets, and 50 years of experience handling complex chemical processes safely and reliably. Based in Batesville, Arkansas, FutureFuel partners with customers looking to launch new products and expand or reshore production within a low risk, asset-rich operating environment.

In addition to custom manufacturing, FutureFuel also offers a growing portfolio of performance chemicals, including FutureChem® EHMA. As a new U.S.-based supplier of EHMA, we are excited to provide adhesive formulators with a reliable domestic source of this important monomer.

#2. What makes FutureChem® EHMA an important monomer in high-performance adhesive systems?

FutureChem® EHMA or 2-Ethylhexyl Methacrylate (2-EHMA) is a highly versatile monomer used across a wide variety of adhesive applications. Chemically, its performance is driven by the combination of:

  1. A branched C8 side chain which lowers the glass transition temperature (Tg) to provide flexibility and impact resistance. It also increases hydrophobicity and water repellency for improved durability and weatherability.
  2. A reactive methacrylate headgroup that offers high reactivity for copolymerization with other monomers to support adhesion, scratch resistance, and overall mechanical strength in the polymer.
