Description of Desired Solution

SpecialChem client, a leading Fast Moving Consumer Good organization, is seeking raw materials like surfactants, detergents, polymers, oils, lipids, UV filters, preservatives from wastes.

Background

SpecialChem client has identified clear market opportunities for formulated products containing waste-based ingredients (e.g. from agro, food, ...):
  • Opportunity to contribute to the reduction of waste in society
  • Opportunity to remove exposure to oil price increase and volatility
  • Opportunity to invent cost-efficient manufacturing processes
These opportunities should be of interest for both ingredients manufacturers and food & agro companies having access to the agro feedstock and processing it.

Detailed Solution Description

The raw material from a waste source should have the following properties:
  • Lower price than ingredients from a non-waste source (e.g. chemical synthesis of the same compound from another company) or similar price
  • Not harmful or toxic
  • No strong odor, without odor
  • No strong colors (deep colors like intensive brown, black etc)
  • Mixture of ingredients is ok, when they can be exactly specified and are not harmful, toxic, but high content of the main ingredient is preferred
  • Description of the benefits of the main ingredient or ingredient mixture
  • Own test results of the solution provider concerning the benefits in cosmetics/dermatology instead of literature descriptions of the benefits
  • Chemistry of the ingredient (s), INCI
  • Available in tons for functional ingredients, in Kg for actives

Possible Routes To Investigate

  • Waste from agriculture (fruits, berries, olive, tomato, apple, coconut, soy, straw, crops like corn, wheat), Forest residues
  • Waste from food processing (peanut etc.)
  • Waste from beverage processing (cranberry, blackcurrant etc.)
  • Waste from aquatic (algae) sources

Solution that are not of interest

  • Waste from very toxic synthetic processes (cyanide, mercury etc.)
  • Waste from very toxic natural sources
  • Waste from nuclear power plants

Anticipated Next Steps with Respondents

Other Comments / Important Considerations

  • Price indication must be in Euro per ton
  • It is preferred that the proposed ingredient has an INCI and no restriction to use for cosmetics/dermatology unless the solution provider is interested in making all necessary registrations
  • Own test results of the solution provider concerning the benefits in cosmetics/dermatology are preferred instead of literature descriptions of the benefits.
