In order to please end-consumers, nail polish must demonstrate the following properties: Long lasting, fast drying, shiny aspect and ease of application (including film homogeneity on the nail).
These attributes are traditionally obtained using Toluene (allowing dilution of the resin and fast drying time of the polish), Formaldehyde (by cross linking keratin and nail polish it offers good cohesion) and Phthalate (increasing homogeneity of the film).
Toxicity of these compounds and bad press are pushing cosmetic companies to identify alternative technologies keeping original attributes.
A relevant technology would be incorporated into hundreds of thousands units of finished products.
