A SpecialChem Client is seeking a coating with permanent antimicrobial properties and good durability. This technology will be applied on transparent substrates.

The SpecialChem Client is a worldwide leader in consumer goods. Their products can be manipulated by hand, inducing the possibility to accumulate bacteria on it.

The SpecialChem Client is seeking to acquire or develop a technology that would allow its products to present a permanent antimicrobial property.
The solution can be deployed worldwide on some of SpecialChem Client’s products. 

• The coating will be applied on metal oxides and/or polymeric surfaces.
• The deposition process can be done by wet coating deposition (spray, spin, dip, bar coating), PVD, CVD and sputtering.

The resulting coating should demonstrate the following performances:

• Antimacrobial properties at least equal to JIS Z2801 standard (log reduction>2) for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with a permanent function
• Transparent
• Good durability versus abrasion or mechanical rubbing.

Ideally, the coating should also demonstrate the following characteristics

• Good resistance to UV light in outdoor conditions for at least one year.  
• Good resistance to alcoholic solvents and to surfactants.

• Solutions affecting the visual aspect or touch feels, because they degrade the consumer experience.
