Elevating Polymeric Compounds with Enhanced Scratch and Abrasion Resistance Using Silicon Additives
- 30 min
by
Camillo Cardelli
Polymeric compounds are nowadays formulated with increasing dosages of mineral fillers to improve the flexural modulus, surface hardness, thermal conductivity, the temperature of solidification, crystallinity, and, finally, the production cost.
The most difficult challenges for highly filled compounds are:
- The perfect dispersion of the finest fractions of mineral particles
- The unwelcome increase of viscosity which brings an increase of friction during the compounding with overheating of the melt, the wearing of equipment, and the increase of the energy consumption.
- The reduction of scratch resistance
- The reduction of abrasion resistance
For the 4th year in a row, Silma’s webinar presents results of internal R&D activity for the wide range of Silmaprocess special additives for special polymeric compounds providing and boosting the:
- Dispersion of minerals
- Reduction of shear stress during compounding and processing
- Improvement of surface smoothness
- Great improvement of scratch and abrasion resistance
Silmaprocess for thermoplastic and crosslinked polymer compounds will be described, with few practical examples related to different applications:Automotive
- Shoes soles
- Cables
- Technical applications
