Alcotex® 45 by Synthomer is a secondary suspending agent for vinyl chloride suspension polymerization. It is 45% hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol supplied as a low viscosity solution in a water/isopropyl alcohol solution. It boosts PVC production output while reducing costs. It may be used in conjunction with conventional primary suspending agents. In optimized recipes, improvement can be obtained in the porosity/bulk density relationship. It offers better porosity that facilitates both monomer removal and plasticizer uptake. Alcotex® 45 has a random distribution of acetate groups.
