Exolit™ OP 1242

Supplied byClariant- Last Updated on Oct 29, 2025

Exolit™ OP 1242 by Clariant is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on organic phosphinates. It achieves its flame-retardant effect through a combined gas phase and condensed phase mode of action. The thermoplastic polymer with it forms on exposure to flame a stable char at the surface acting as a barrier. It provides a heat-insulating effect, reduces oxygen access, and prevents dripping of molten polymer.
  • It offers excellent hydrolytic stability, making it suitable for hot and humid environments.
  • It is especially used in thermoplastic polyester resins including both glass fiber reinforced and unfilled PBT and PET grades.
  • It maintains strong physical and electrical properties in flame-retarded polyester compounds.
  • It is ATO-free, does not require fluorinated polymers like PTFE and supports compliance with stringent OEM environmental requirements.
  • It can be used with nitrogen synergists such as melamine cyanurate to enhance flame retardancy.
  • It achieves UL 94 V-0 rating at 0.4 mm thickness.
