Polystyrene (PS / GPPS)

Based on 1708 products - Last update on the Jul 31, 2025

Polystyrene appears as a clear, brittle thermoplastic with excellent transparency. Key features include excellent optical clarity, good dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, excellent electrical insulation properties, and cost-effectiveness. Polystyrene finds extensive applications in food packaging, disposable cutlery, CD cases, laboratory ware, and consumer goods.

Alternatives to PS include PHA, PLA, and starch-based bioplastics. Current trends include developing biodegradable alternatives and implementing recycling programs to address the environmental impact of single-use polystyrene products. Polystyrene exists in several main types including general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), expandable polystyrene (EPS), and syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS).
