Polypropylene (PP)

Based on 14314 products - Last update on the Oct 6, 2025

Polypropylene (PP) is a versatile thermoplastic polymer that appears translucent to opaque with a waxy surface and natural milky white color. Key features include excellent chemical resistance to acids, bases, and organic solvents, good fatigue resistance, outstanding moisture barrier properties, low density, high stiffness-to-weight ratio, and good processability. Polypropylene is widely used in packaging, automotive components, consumer goods, textiles, and fibers.

Polypropylene is available in three primary sub-types, each with distinct property profiles: homopolymer PP, random copolymer PP, and block copolymer PP. Key trends include the development of high-clarity grades for transparent packaging, lightweight high-performance grades for automotive lightweighting initiatives, and specialty grades with enhanced sustainability profiles. The industry is also focusing on recycled PP formulations and bio-based PP versions derived partially from renewable resources. Alternatives to PP include polyethylene, PET, nylon, and ABS.
