PC is primarily used in eyewear lenses, bulletproof glass, electronic components, automotive headlamp lenses, medical devices, and data storage discs. 

Alternatives include acrylic (PMMA), transparent ABS, and various PC blends such as PC/ABS. The industry trend shows increasing development of non-BPA formulations to address health concerns and a growing focus on recycled and bio-based polycarbonates for sustainability. Sub-types include optical grades, medical grades meeting biocompatibility standards, flame-retardant grades for electronics with UL ratings, UV-stabilized versions for outdoor applications; filled grades incorporating glass fiber for enhanced rigidity and dimensional stability.
