Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) is an opaque engineering thermoplastic with excellent surface quality and gloss, available in a wide range of colors that remain vibrant over time. Key features include outstanding UV and weather stability, excellent impact resistance even after prolonged outdoor exposure, good chemical resistance, high heat distortion temperature, and exceptional color stability. Predominantly used in automotive exterior trim, garden equipment, outdoor furniture, building components, recreational vehicles, marine parts, and appliance housings.
Alternatives to ASA include ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), AES (Acrylonitrile Ethylene Styrene), and PC/ASA blends. Current trends include bio-based versions and variants with recycled content. Manufacturers are also creating specialized sub-types such as impact-modified grades, heat-resistant, flame-retardant variants to meet stringent safety standards, and glass-fiber reinforced ASA options.
