Background to withdrawal from business
Production of BioPBS™ was terminated in December 2025. Sales will continue only until existing stock is depleted. Once inventory is exhausted, the product will no longer be available. PTT MCC Biochem Co., Ltd. will subsequently be dissolved and liquidated in accordance with applicable local regulations.
BioPBS™ has been in commercial production since 2017, with adoption documented in applications including paper cup coatings and coffee capsules. The product is manufactured at PTT MCC Biochem's facility in Rayong Province, Thailand.
Mitsubishi Chemical attributes the withdrawal to sustained low profitability, citing a divergence between actual market conditions and initial business assumptions. The company states it concluded that achieving sustainable growth in the PBS segment would not be feasible.
PTT MCC Biochem is jointly owned by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited, both headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand.
