DOMO Chemicals' German subsidiaries file for insolvency
Last update on Jan 2, 2026
DOMO Chemicals GmbH, DOMO Caproleuna GmbH and DOMO Engineering Plastics GmbH have filed for insolvency. These are the German subsidiaries of the Belgian chemical company DOMO Chemicals.
The competent local court has appointed Prof. Dr. Lucas F. Flöther, a name partner at the law firm Flöther & Wissing, as the preliminary insolvency administrator. Flöther intends to continue business operations and is currently reviewing potential restructuring options.
To assess possible restructuring options
In the coming weeks, the preliminary insolvency administrator will work closely with creditors and company management to gain a clear picture of the financial situation and assess available restructuring options. These could include securing an investor or reaching a settlement with creditors. It will become clearer over the coming months which path holds the greatest promise.

“Day-to-day operations are continuing at all locations. Manufacturing and customer deliveries remain uninterrupted,” emphasized Flöther. Together with his team, he is already on site and is informing the approximately 585 employees about the situation today. Wages and salaries are secured for the next three months through insolvency benefits. “This gives us some important financial breathing room,” said Flöther.
“The German companies of the DOMO Group are among the technology leaders in their field. In addition, they have a highly capable workforce and a strong, reputable customer base,” Flöther explained. “These are not bad starting conditions, even though the market environment for chemical companies is undoubtedly challenging.”
Affected by persistently weak demand in European chemicals sector
The companies of the DOMO Group, headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, manufactures and markets polymers, engineering plastics and high-performance fibers for clients in the automotive, consumer and industrial goods, and the electrical and electronics sectors worldwide. According to the company, DOMO Group’s businesses have been affected by persistently weak demand in the European chemicals sector. High energy costs and a strong rise of imports of polyamid resin from non-EU countries, in particular from China, have further exacerbated the situation.
In response, the management team began a restructuring process in 2024. However, after talks over further short-term financing recently broke down, the three German entities were forced to file for insolvency. The insolvency filings apply exclusively to the three German companies of the DOMO Group: DOMO Chemicals GmbH (Leuna, approximately 35 employees), DOMO Caproleuna GmbH (Leuna, approximately 480 employees), and DOMO Engineering Plastics GmbH (Premnitz, approximately 70 employees).
