Celanese's ultra-low emission POM featured in air vents for Li Auto vehicles

Last update on Aug 11, 2025

Celanese Corporation, a global specialty materials and chemical company, and Li Auto, jointly introduced the world’s first ultra-low emission Hostaform® POM XAP®3, which is being used in vehicle cabin components. The advanced material is featured in the air vents of Li Auto vehicles. This milestone marks a significant step forward in enhancing in-cabin air quality for new energy vehicles.

A formal launch ceremony commemorated the event, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between Celanese and Li Auto to advance material innovation to support a more comfortable driving experience.

Reduces formaldehyde emissions by up to 90%

As the first company globally to commercialize copolymerized POM, Celanese introduced low-emission POM material in 1998. The new Hostaform® POM XAP®3 represents the third generation of this platform and incorporates the Celanese propriety Functional Unified Synergy Enhancement (FUSE) technology. This innovation maintains excellent mechanical properties while delivering outstanding ultra-low emission performance, with the potential to reduce formaldehyde emissions by up to 90 percent compared to the current mainstream industry level under standard testing conditions.

Through close collaboration with Li Auto, we have made substantial technical advancements in reducing emissions in vehicles, thereby supporting the long-term development of the automotive industry,” said Kevin Liao, Celanese vice president, Engineered Materials.

As the first automaker to adopt Hostaform® POM XAP®3, Li Auto will be able to achieve near-zero formaldehyde emissions from its air outlet components under normal driving conditions. When combined with an advanced in-cabin air purification system, this material can improve cabin air quality and comfort for all passengers. This development aligns with rising consumer demand for in-car environments with better air quality.

Better cabin air quality represents one of the essential experiences in innovative smart vehicles,” said Litao Chen, head of Cabin Department at Li Auto, “Our partnership with Celanese not only fosters innovation in material technology but also helps users receive the safety and comfort they expect.

Jichao Duan, head of Materials Department at Li Auto, stated, “The adoption of Hostaform® POM XAP®3 marks a notable milestone for Li Auto in the realm of lower emission materials, and we remain committed to enhancing our products through material innovative technology.”

The release of Hostaform® POM XAP®3 signifies the first of many innovation collaborations between Celanese and Li Auto. Looking ahead, the two companies plan to continue exploring additional high-performance material applications in vehicle interiors, exteriors, electric drive systems and other areas. The collaboration aims to combine the engineering material expertise of Celanese with Li Auto’s intelligent and electrified vehicle technologies to drive the high-quality development of China’s growing new energy vehicle market.
