Addressing logistics, labor cost and safety challenges

With the global housing shortage now exceeding 6.5 million units and construction teams facing persistent labor shortages alongside stricter regulatory mandates, pressure to build faster, safer, and more affordably continues to intensify. As modular construction emerges as an efficient and cost-effective solution to the global housing shortage, materials technology is becoming a differentiator that enables projects to scale.

Avient Corporation is showcasing composite panels at World of Modular 2026 that address industry-wide challenges, including logistics, labor costs and availability, and personal safety and security.

Up to 75% weight savings compared to steel

Modular builders need materials that deliver reliable structural performance without the logistical challenges of heavy traditional materials that add weight, increase handling and shipping costs, and slow assembly timelines. Hammerhead™ Composite Panels can deliver up to 75% weight savings compared to steel and 25% compared to aluminum, while maintaining the structural integrity required for transport, stacking, and long-term use in modular construction.

Additionally, Hammerhead panels are available in large-format sizes up to 10 feet wide and more than 24 feet in length. These advantages can translate directly to reduced transportation costs and logistical concerns, as well as simplified, fast installation and easy handling on factory floors to minimize labor constraints.

Advanced solutions for high-security needs

Beyond residential development, modular construction is expanding into healthcare facilities, secure government and military properties, and schools as defense-related infrastructure demands are accelerating. Avient’s ballistic-resistant composite panels can provide fiber-reinforced protection at less than a quarter of the weight of steel. This allows architects and builders to integrate security features directly into modular wall systems without sacrificing flexibility or efficiency in standard workflows.

“By investing in research and collaborating directly with our customers, we’re not just reacting to industry needs, we’re helping to shape what’s possible for the future of modular construction,” said Todd Hobbs, senior business manager for Advanced Composites at Avient. “Our goal is to empower modular builders to construct safe, fast, and smart structures, delivering strong outcomes for communities around the globe.”

Avient Corporation will exhibit at Booth 508 during World of Modular 2026 in Las Vegas (April 20–23), showcasing composite panels, tapes, and pultruded profiles. Company experts will be available and are now scheduling times for one-on-one meetings and interviews.
