Avient expands rPC and PC blends portfolio for E&E industry to EMEA
Last update on Aug 7, 2025
Avient Corporation announces additional grades in its portfolio of recycled-content polycarbonate (PC) and PC blends. These are developed to meet the growing demand for materials that support sustainability in the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry to the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions.
Contains up to 98% PCR content
Initially launched in Asia, Avient’s expanded Edgetek™ Recycled Polycarbonate (REC PC) Solutions offer the high performance of a traditional polycarbonate (PC) with a significantly reduced carbon footprint based on their incorporation of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content at substantial levels.
The EMEA extension of the Edgetek REC PC product line includes PC and PC blends with 35% to 98% PCR content. This is in addition to 20% to 70% recycled content in previously launched grades, all delivering mechanical properties comparable to virgin PC. These REACH and RoHS-compliant solutions are now commercially available in Europe and can be used for applications such as device enclosures, sockets, and other aesthetic or structural E&E components intended to withstand harsh environments.
“Sustainability is a key driver in the E&E segment, and our newest REC PC solutions can help customers meet their environmental goals without compromising performance,” said Hermann Fuechter, senior marketing & product manager EMEAI, Specialty Engineered Materials at Avient. “With global sourcing capabilities and technical support, we’re enabling customers to transition smoothly to more sustainable materials.”
The Edgetek REC PC portfolio includes unfilled and glass-filled grades of rPC, rPC/PBT, and rPC/ABS blends, with glass fiber content ranging from 10% to 30%. With colorability in virtually all colors and shades enabled by the high quality of the PCR source, these materials are available as precolored compounds or as natural grades, which are colorable and recommended for use with Avient’s OnColor™ Color Masterbatches for PC. These materials can also be formulated for compatibility with existing tooling and processes, minimizing the need for requalification or new molds.
Key benefits
Sustainability: Up to 98% PCR content, significantly reducing carbon footprint, with impact measured using Avient’s ISO 14067-certified Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculator
Performance parity: Comparable mechanical and thermal properties to virgin PC
Design flexibility: Suitable for both aesthetic and structural applications
Global availability: Produced in Europe and Asia with potential for expansion to North America
