75% PCR-based carbon fiber reinforced compound by SABIC

Consumer electronics manufacturers evaluating high-recycled-content structural materials can now assess a new polycarbonate (PC) compound introduced by SABIC. According to the company, LNP™ ELCRIN™ DC0051RC1 incorporates 75 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content – making it, the company states, its first PCR-based carbon fiber-reinforced compound in the LNP ELCRIN range. The compound is described as suited for consumer electronics housings.

Thin-wall UL 94 V0 flame retardancy (FR) at 0.8 mm
The compound is formulated with PC resin and reinforced with carbon fiber. According to SABIC, the material demonstrates dimensional stability, high modulus, and thin-wall UL 94 V0 flame retardancy (FR) at 0.8 mm.
For manufacturers working on lightweighting targets, the thin-wall capability of this grade may support weight reduction in housing and structural component designs. The supplier also reports low warpage behavior, which the company indicates supports dimensional consistency in large-format parts such as laptop housings.

The 75 percent PCR content is sourced from post-consumer streams. The compound uses a non-chlorinated, non-brominated FR chemistry. According to SABIC, this formulation choice is intended to reduce health risks and negative environmental impacts associated with certain halogenated FR systems. LNP™ ELCRIN™ DC0051RC1 compound is commercially available globally.
