How to reduce fine lines & wrinkles?

Last update on Jun 6, 2025

Fine lines and wrinkles are a normal part of aging. 90% of the aging on our skin is from the sun1. That is why face, neck, the backs of the hands, and the tops of the forearms are the most susceptible areas to show these signs of aging.

What causes fine lines and wrinkles?

Skin aging is caused by a combination of internal and external factors. Internally:

  • As we age, the rate at which our skin cells regenerate slows down. This leads to a buildup of dead skin cells on the surface, making skin appear dull and rough.

  • Over time, the body produces less and less collagen and elastin, which are 2 proteins that provide skin with its structure and elasticity.

  • Our skin cells are exposed to free radicals from sun exposure throughout life. This hinders cell function and contributes to premature aging.

Externally, smoking reduces oxygen flow to the skin and damages collagen production, leading to premature wrinkles. Pollution, extreme temperatures, and low humidity can all stress the skin, further contributing to wrinkles and dryness.
