Benzyl Alcohol (and) Benzoic Acid (and) Dehydroacetic Acid. optiphen™ bd preservative by Ashland Specialty Chemical acts as a preservative. It is easily solubilized in water. Used in hair care (conditioners, gels, mousses, novel stylers, shampoos, styling lotions/creams), skin care (body care, color cosmetics, face and body washes, facial care, and wipes) and sun care (after-sun, self-tanning, and sunscreen) applications. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast and mold, it offers excellent heat stability, works across a wide pH window (up to pH 6.4). optiphen™ bd preservative is EcoCert -, NaTrue-, COSMOS- and BDIH-compliant.
