Solabia's Active Ingredient Addresses Sensitive Skin Prone to Atopy unveiled its new cutting-edge active ingredient addressing sensitive skin prone to atopy. Launched during in-cosmetics Global 2024, is a double-patented active ingredient based on flocculosin.

This innovative glycolipid is obtained by biofermentation of Pseudozyma flocculosa and was bioinspired by this epiphytic fungus and the holobiont concept.

Promotes Healthy Microbiome

Serenibiome® showcases unprecedented activity, promoting a healthy microbiome and bringing comfort to atopic-prone skin.

Pseudozyma flocculosa is an epiphytic fungus that acts as a biocontrol agent maintaining a healthy ecological niche for its hostplant. Pseudozyma flocculosa was identified on plant leaves infected by mildew and is known to prevent phytopathogens colonization by releasing a specific extracellular glycolipid with powerful properties: flocculosin.

Serenibiome®'s unique activity on imbalanced microbiome and compromised skin is bioinspired by Pseudozyma flocculosa and its interactions with its vegetal host. Due to this powerful glycolipid, Serenibiome® protects the cutaneous holobiont.

30 years of expertise in biotechnology, Solabia Group succeeded in developing an industrial process mimicking the natural production of flocculosin by Pseudozyma flocculosa. Serenibiome® is the achievement of over 8 years of R&D to develop an optimized bioguided fermentation process inducing the fungus' metabolic pathway.

This white-biotech process meets high CSR standards through water and energy management, low-temperature process, and low carbon emissions, and yields a high-purity flocculosin. As a result, Serenibiome® is a 100% natural, COSMOS-approved, preservative-free, eco-designed, and readily biodegradable active ingredient tailored for sensitive skin. Inspired by nature and designed for skin health, Serenibiome® restores skin holobiont balance and significantly improves the condition of delicate skin prone to atopy.

Calms Neurogenic Inflammation

Applied to skin health, Serenibiome® has shown exceptional and unrivaled in vitro efficacy to bioselectively target Staphylococcus aureus growth without impacting Staphylococcus epidermidis commensal population.

S. aureus is the prevalent opportunistic bacteria involved in microbiome dysbiosis in atopic-prone skin and recent studies have also shown its implication in neurogenic inflammation, inducing itch and scratch by stimulating the pruriceptors in sensory neurons. Pre-clinical studies have demonstrated Serenibiome®'s efficacy on itch-scratch vicious cycle drivers and it was then also clinically confirmed through a metagenomic study with a correlated decrease in SCORAD.

Versus an emollient-enriched placebo, Serenibiome® significantly improves the skin condition of children with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis after 28 days, calms neurogenic inflammation, helps to limit the pro-inflammatory signaling, enhances the release of well-being neuromediators and supports the skin barrier repair.
