Pilot Chemical & Novvi to bring new sustainable surfactant technology to North America announced an exclusive partnership with to bring a new sustainable surfactant technology, biobased alpha olefin sulfonates, to the North American market.

Meet sustainability goals without compromising performance


In partnership with Novvi, Pilot will supply CalCare® AOS biobased alpha olefin sulfonates to the North American household, industrial, and institutional (I&I), and personal care (PC) markets. CalCare® AOS biobased technology will enable customers to meet sustainability goals without compromising performance across a range of applications.

The partnership leverages Novvi's bio alpha olefin technology and commercial-scale feedstock supply with Pilot's reputation as an alpha olefin sulfonator and anionic surfactant provider. Through the Novvi partnership, Pilot is the sulfonator and marketing channel for biobased alpha olefin sulfonates in North America for the household, I&I, and PC markets. It will produce CalCare® AOS biobased alpha olefin sulfonates at commercial scale in its Middletown, Ohio, facility.

CalCare® AOS biobased alpha olefin surfactants have the performance of traditional synthetic alpha olefin sulfonates with the added benefit of being fully biobased. These high-performance, sulfate-alternative surfactants are excellent for use in a range of cleaning and rinse-off personal care applications. Commercial quantities will be available starting in the second half of this year.
