A clinical study published in the peer-reviewed journal HealthMed 18-2 confirms that the novel keratin-based oral supplement KeraGEN IV® by New Zealand company Keraplast is scientifically validated as a keratin supplement on the market.KeraGEN IV® is an all-in-one comprehensive supplement targeting the inner beauty market and designed to enhance the health and appearance of hair, skin, and nails.
Designed to Enhance the Health and Appearance of Hair, Skin & Nails
The findings of the peer-reviewed study add to an already extensive list of scientific research supporting the efficacy and safety of the supplement, including in-vitro, ex-vivo, and in-vivo studies.
Howard Moore, CEO of Keraplast - attributes the results to Keraplast's proprietary keratin extraction technology, and its raw source material – regeneratively farmed sheep's wool. 'Keraplast has pioneered a patented commercial method to extract alpha keratin on a large scale. We utilize a gentle, low-temperature chemical process which breaks disulfide bonds to make the keratin soluble and then modifies the cysteine bonds to maintain solubility and introduce high bioactivity.'
'The result is a functionalized keratin®, and because of the similarity between alpha-keratin in wool and human keratin, it provides superior bioactivity when used in personal care and supplements.'
Scott Haycock, commercial director at Keraplast says, 'What differentiates the Keratin used in this study is that the claims made are based on extensive in-vivo, ex-vivo and in-vitro data. In addition, Keraplast is the only keratin manufacturer sourcing wool from sustainable and regeneratively farmed, grass-fed New Zealand sheep. This is a core contributor to our mission as it relates to the climate and environment.'
The double-blind study involved 65 female participants aged 45-60. The results revealed significant improvements in hair loss and hair strength, enhanced skin elasticity and barrier function, and nail strength among participants taking KeraGEN IV® compared to the placebo group over a 60-day period.
'Participants experienced a 43.1% reduction in hair loss, and a 17.6% increase in hair cortex integrity after just 60 days,' explains Scott. 'We also saw improvements in participants' skin including a 12.5% reduction in Trans Epidermal Water Loss and a 10.1% increase in skin elasticity. 56.2% of participants experienced improved nail strength as well.'
Dr. Jennifer Gu, VP of Research and Development at AIDP, Inc., a distributor of KeraGEN IV®, says that 'this study verifies KeraGEN IV's role in hair anchoring which is a concern for many women experiencing hair loss due to hormonal changes or stress. It also indicated Keragen IV's role in skin elasticity which can deteriorate as one ages.'
KeraGEN IV® is an ingredient in Nutrafol, Alaya Naturals, and Kintsugi products, to name a few. Keraplast also has a range of keratin-based personal care ingredient brands including CoreTX-pep™, FK Protect Plus™, FK Restore™, FK Scalp™ and FK Repair Ultra™.
Keraplast distributes its product to its key markets in Asia, Europe, and the United States where it has experienced continued growth across the personal care and nutraceuticals categories.
Keraplast uses wool from crossbred, pasture-grazed sheep raised in the pristine countryside of New Zealand. Wool is 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable, and Keraplast sources its wool from select farms that use regenerative farming practices which are cruelty-free, promote soil health, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and water cycle retention.
