Last update on Feb 24, 2025

Imerys presents the newest addition to its range, , a perlite-based solution for SPF cosmetics.

ImerCare® SunTouch is a Cosmos-approved, perlite-based sensory agent designed to replace synthetic ingredients in SPF formulations. It delivers a velvety skin feel, dry touch, and natural matte finish, meeting growing demand for eco-friendly SPF cosmetics that can be used on a daily basis.

Non-sticky, Non-greasy, Powdery Touch with a Matte Finish

Consumers are increasingly seeking sunscreens that are comfortable to wear on a daily basis, and which are made with natural ingredients. These products must not only deliver effective sun protection, they should also provide a pleasant, non-sticky sensory experience. In response to these trends, Imerys has developed a new milled perlite which imparts a soft powdery feel to SPF cosmetics and offers an effective natural alternative to synthetic sensory agents such as silica and nylon.

Owing to the structure of expanded perlite, ImerCare® SunTouch enhances sunscreen absorption, promoting effective skin penetration, crucial for maintaining SPF performance.

This high absorption capability results in a non-sticky, non-greasy, powdery touch with a matte finish.

ImerCare® SunTouch is highly versatile and compatible with most SPF formulations. It can be used across the full spectrum of SPF cosmetic formats, including sticks, emulsions, oils, and gels.

In panel tests comparing Imerys' 'Sea, Perlite & Sun' formulation containing 5% ImerCare® SunTouch against a similar formulation containing 5% silica, the former demonstrated equivalent or better performance, without affecting the texture and odor of the formulation.

Equally importantly, ImerCare® SunTouch has little effect on the SPF efficacy of the final product, as confirmed by in vivo studies. The 'Sea, Perlite & Sun' formulation and detailed test results are available upon request.

ImerCare® SunTouch is derived from a 100% natural mineral source and is not treated with chemicals during processing. As such, it is Cosmos-approved. It is an ideal natural sensory enhancer for the replacement of more controversial synthetic ingredients used as texture and sensory enhancers in SPF Cosmetics, such as silica or nylon. Certificates of origin and additional documentation are available upon request.
