Croda Beauty Actives introduces new data on bio-fermentation-derived skin identical ceramide NP

DS-HydroCeramide50™ is suitable for gentle cleansers and body washes. It supports healthy, hydrated skin even after rinsing, addressing the growing consumer demand for scientifically proven skin care benefits in rinse-off products. This active ingredient uses an innovative, water-dispersible solid lipid particle technology to improve formulation stability and increase the bioavailability of ceramide NP, the skin’s most abundant ceramide.

Clinical testing shows DS-HydroCeramide50™ delivers instant hydration, increasing skin moisture by up to +13.4% versus placebo just two hours after application, even at low usage levels. It also significantly reduces flakiness, leading to a smoother skin surface with a +13% rise in aspect score, compared to water cleansing alone. In skin permeation studies, DS-HydroCeramide50™ doubled ceramide penetration (+93.7% vs control), outperforming non-vectorized ceramide NP (+56.1%). 

Additionally, a 14-day long-term daily benefit study demonstrated a 27% decrease in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) following barrier disruption simulation, indicating reinforced skin barrier function.

Formulated into a light cream for a separate additional electroencephalogram (EEG) evaluation, DS-HydroCeramide50™ showed the ability to positively influence the pampering, comfortable emotions of volunteers versus placebo.
