Berg+Schmidt to present Texture & Sensory Compass at in-cosmetics Global 2025Sensory technology is becoming increasingly important in the cosmetics sector, as purchasing decisions for lotions, body butters, and other products are made with all senses. To help formulators find the perfect texture for their product, the Hamburg-based specialist for cosmetic raw materials has developed the Texture & Sensory Compass.

The online tool is publicly available on the website and will be presented to the public for the first time at in-cosmetics 2025 at booth 1B61.

Divided into four galenic forms of milk, lotion, cream & butter

'The highest quality ingredients are useless if the sensory properties of the end product don't convince the customer,' says Sabrina Paltian, senior Application Technologist at Berg+Schmidt. 'Particularly in the case of cosmetics, the look and texture of the product are decisive for the purchase.'

Customers' sensory expectations are particularly high when it comes to exclusive formulations - a major challenge for formulators. 'Not least due to beauty influencers on social media, the topic of sensory properties in cosmetic products has moved even further into focus. Manufacturers must devote new attention to sensor technology in order to remain attractive on the market,' explains Paltian.

The Texture & Sensory Compass is divided into the four galenic forms of milk, lotion, cream, and butter. It also shows how, for example, emulsifiers, rheology additives, and emollients can be integrated into the formulation to achieve the desired result. In addition to the rheological behavior, liquid to solid, it also shows the possibilities of skin feel, light to rich.

The tool works from the end product and shows which raw materials are required to achieve a certain formulation. It also shows innovative effects, for example how to formulate a cream that feels like a light serum after application. In addition, the tool also offers tips and tricks for trendy formulations.

Berg+Schmidt's presence at in-cosmetics 2025 will be entirely dedicated to the Texture & Sensory Compass, 'Visitors can experience textures up close at our Sensory Bar and immerse themselves in the world of textures,' says Paltian.
