PARFUM

Last update on Jan 22, 2026

Parfum is essentially an ingredient that cosmetic and skin care products can do without since it does not have any functional purposes. However, it is added to appease the senses and make the products more desirable. Health benefits of artificial fragrances, if any, may include improving the mood and reducing stress and anxiety. Other names for fragrance in cosmetics include perfume, parfum, scent, musk, essence, etc. Additionally, Parfum is just a French word for perfume.

What is PARFUM used for?

Parfum fragrance does not have any functional benefits but is just used to make skin care and cosmetic products more pleasant in terms of smell. This is also because the chemicals used in these formulations do not have a very pleasant odor. Parfum is used in a range of products like body washes, skin toners, makeup, serums, etc. However, fragrance in skin care is generally avoided to reduce the symptoms of irritation and allergies that it may cause to some people. Skin care products are mostly used for their functional benefits and do not necessarily require fragrance Parfum because they need not be left on.

Origin

Parfum could be made in the lab using natural gas by-products or petroleum. Further, natural-based fragrances can be extracted from a range of sources like flowers, fruits, resins, leaves, grasses, etc.
