Last update on Aug 23, 2024
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is a synthetic peptide that has skin-repairing and anti-aging properties. It stimulates collagen production and improves skin elasticity, in turn, reducing wrinkles and giving the skin a youthful glow. It is also great for moisturizing and healing the skin. Also known as Matrixyl, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is commonly found in creams, serums, and anti-aging formulations. In its raw form, it appears as a white to off-white powder that is odorless. Its non-greasy texture and deep penetration enhances the overall feel and performance of the product. The chemical formula of Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is C39H75N7O10.

What is PALMITOYL PENTAPEPTIDE-4 used for?

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is a star ingredient in anti-aging skincare due to its ability to mimic the effects of naturally occurring collagen and elastin in the skin. By promoting the production of these proteins, it helps reduce the depth and volume of wrinkles, particularly in the forehead and around the eyes, commonly known as crow's feet. Additionally, it aids in repairing damaged skin by stimulating the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which maintain skin hydration and suppleness. Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is also known for improving skin resilience, making it appear firmer and smoother over time. Its gentle nature allows it to be used in various formulations without causing irritation, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Origin

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is synthesized through a process called solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). In this process, amino acids are sequentially added to form a specific peptide chain (the pentapeptide), which consists of five amino acids. After the peptide chain is formed, it is linked to palmitic acid, a fatty acid, to enhance its skin penetration. The final compound is then purified and tested for quality.
