What is LAURYL LACTATE used for?

Lauryl Lactate is a versatile emollient and skin-conditioning agent widely used in cosmetics. It provides a lightweight, non-greasy feel, making it ideal for products like lotions, creams, and sunscreens. Its smooth texture enhances spreadability, improving the application experience and absorption of products. Due to its lactic acid component, Lauryl Lactate offers mild exfoliating benefits, gently promoting skin cell renewal without irritation. It is also valued in sun care formulations, where it improves the even distribution of SPF ingredients, helping ensure effective coverage. Additionally, Lauryl Lactate is used in hair conditioners to keep hair moisturized and healthy.

Origin

Lauryl Lactate is an ester formed when lauryl alcohol is combined with lactic acid through an esterification process. In this reaction, the hydroxyl group of lactic acid reacts with the alcohol group of lauryl alcohol, forming an ester bond and releasing water as a byproduct. The resulting ester, Lauryl Lactate, is then purified to remove impurities.
