What is HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE used for?
Hydrogenated polydecene acts as an emollient, skin and hair conditioning agent, masking agent, and solvent.
- Skin care: It is an emollient and works as a skin-softening agent. It forms a non-occlusive film on the skin’s surface and provides gloss without making the formulation greasy. It has excellent wetting capability, is ideal for sun care and makeup applications and its pure and hypoallergenic property makes it useful for baby products
- Hair care: It makes hair soft, supple, shiny, and easy to comb, providing volume and lightness to them. It acts as a solvent for dissolving substances and also as a fragrant agent in perfumes
Origin
It is prepared by the hydrogenation of mixtures of tri-, tetra- penta-, and hexa-1-decenes.

Safety Profile
Hydrogenated polydecene allergy or hydrogenated polydecene side effects are not very common. It has a very low hazard rating from EWG (typically 1) with no significant concerns for irritation, sensitization, comedogenicity, or toxicity. It is non-irritating, well-tolerated across skin types (including sensitive), and poses low risk at typical concentrations (up to 20-50%). As a non-volatile hydrocarbon, it shows negligible skin penetration. However, it may be harmful to the environment.
